With Mary Agnes Hamilton he co-edited The Youth Development Handbook and conducted action research with youth-serving organizations in Latin America. He was a social studies and English teacher at Phelps Vocational High School in Washington, DC. His degrees are from Swarthmore College and the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
